How to Confirm RF Electrode Compatibility With Your Generator (Neurotherm, Abbott, Stryker)

The single most important question before buying any RF electrode is not price — it's fit. Radiofrequency generators are closed ecosystems: connectors, pin configurations, and electrical characteristics differ by platform, and an electrode that doesn't match your generator is useless on arrival. Here's the checklist we recommend to every practice before ordering.

1. Identify your exact generator

Don't rely on the brand alone. Record the manufacturer and the specific model from the device label — generator families change connectors between generations. Note, too, that brands evolve through acquisitions: NeuroTherm systems, for example, later became part of Abbott's portfolio, which is why you'll see electrodes described as "Neurotherm / Abbott compatible."

2. Read the compatibility line on the listing

A trustworthy listing states the generator platform the electrode is designed for — not just "universal fit." On our reusable RF electrodes, compatibility is the first line of the specification table: Neurotherm / Abbott or Stryker.

3. Match the electrode length to your technique

Electrode length must correspond to the cannulae you stock and the anatomy you treat — common lengths are 50 mm, 100 mm, and 150 mm. Check what your team actually uses before ordering a size.

4. Ask the supplier to confirm — in writing

Before you place the order, send the supplier your generator make and model and have them confirm fit. A supplier who won't do this is telling you something. We do this as standard: call (954) 859-8094 or send us your model and we'll confirm compatibility before you buy.

5. Know the return terms before you need them

Even with diligence, mistakes happen — a wrong size gets ordered, a generator gets upgraded. Check the supplier's return policy before purchase, and never open packaging until you've verified you ordered the right item; unopened items are far easier to exchange.

The bottom line

Compatibility diligence takes five minutes and prevents the only truly bad outcome in electrode purchasing: equipment that can't be used. If you're unsure about anything on this list, ask us — answering these questions is what we do all day.
